I know how David must have felt when he first saw Goliath…

This morning I cried. I cry a lot, but this time I cried loud and hard. I cried on the voicemail of the insurance specialist at the infusion center. I cried because I was frustrated.

The problem is I am anemic, and I also have stage 4 kidney disease. I just got a blood transfusion a month ago and repeated infusions would delay me getting on the transplant list. I do not have iron deficiency. My kidney does not produce red blood cells. I need procrit injections; however, United Healthcare is dragging their feet in approving it.

I went to the doctor on Wednesday and my blood volume is half the amount recommended for an average adult. I’m fatigued and weak all the time. The headaches are getting worse. I try not to complain about my symptoms because I don’t want to have to go into the hospital. I just want to get better.

I’m not giving up the fight. I’ll find a way to beat this giant. I may cry, but I won’t give up. I will be victorious, just like David.
